Another hard starting issue

My '90 XJ does the usual long crank at start-up, even with the fuel check valve. Funny thing is, if I use the remote start, it starts almost instantly every time! How come?

Gee Dave! What is that ... a trick question. Of all the people on this board, I would figure you would be best suited to answer your own question.

As far as I know the only applicable difference between the two scenarios is the ignition switch versus the relay. Right?

Crappy contacts on the ignition switch? Unless your setup connects directly to the starter(?).

Every once in a while I get stumped, so thank heavens for the help from this forum!
I had replaced the ignition switch several months ago, at the suggestion of another "forum aid", but it didn't make any difference. It was probably a good idea to replace it anyhow, given the age of the vehicle and the reputation of these switches for causing a variety of problems.
This one is a real puzzler!
