I have a chance to get a XJ for free. It is an 88 4.0L basic equiptment. It is only 2wd though.
I also have a friend that owns a used car dealer and he offered to get me a wreaked XJ at a salvage auction cheap.
So, the question is, is there anything I should know, look out for, etc. before attempting this?
I have a shop, tool and have been a mechanic for 14 years. I have tons of experiance with modifying and building stuff. So, its not a matter of "how hard or can I do it", but is there anything that Jeep did different between the 2 and 4wd XJs?
I know the front axle is basicly the same without the diff and axles.
What is the advantage between the 2 T-cases? I know the NP231 and NP242 were offered, what is better?(If I have a choice)
One more advantage to the 88 may be that it may have the tow package and the D44 rear.
Any help, suggestions would be great.
