Firewall shifter cable grommet.

So I recently got myself a -97 XJ and obviously are busy fixing things here and there. And one of the things that bugs me, and have turned into a bit of a PIA, is that the grommet that should seal the shifter cable thru the firewall is loose!
But.
I can't get the grommet to go back in since the cable comes out at a rather severe angle...

What's the trick!?

^This.^ It's a virtue... But seating one side of a grommet and then pushing the other side in with a small screwdriver also works well. A bit of dielectric or caliper grease wouldn't hurt either.

Lube it with silicon sealer, then it'll stay put.

Think I'l try silicon since I don't want it to come loose again. Biggest problem is to just get to that sucker! One hand job at best, and only from underneath I learned...l
