Shaft Wobble

A little PM today on the 96 4.0 179000 miles.
The distributor shaft has a little side to side play.Cap and rotor button show some contact and a slight knock can be heard and felt when the engine is running.
Anyone know how much a dist would cost,how hard to replace and re-time ?

A reman distributor should run 100-150$ at your local autoparts chain store. Very easy to change. Make note, most rebuilders bead blast the housings which causes the shaft to become slightly larger. You may need to sand down the housing or clean it up on a high speed wire wheel to get it to fit in the block. You will need a timing light to retime.
