Questions about cruise control ?

Hey.
I have a 92 xj 4.0.

the cruise control has Never worked. since buying the car.
I have checked all fuses.
Have checked the box under the hood for vacuum leaks.
cannot find anything
So that leaves me thinking the stick with the controls on the steering wheel is to blame.
To confirm.
If I hit the switch on the dash, Should I get some type of indicator light ?
is there some items to look for on the dash ?

because it has never worked. I do not have a reference point.

I don't get a indicator light on ours.
The switch column could be bad, could be the brake light switch too.
I'd also check the cable from the actuator to the throttle .
