If it's going to I'll be bringing the appropriate gear...this time. I was fine the time before last.

Any Idea what trail(s) we will be doing on Saturday?
2N49 had some rocks that could be moved.
When do we get to play with the heavy equipment and repair the erosion damage?
When do we get chain saw training?

I am trying to convince Shannon that camping on Saturday night will be even better than SnoCalFest, because no snow. So Tim better not mention snow anymore, otherwise I won't be able to camp Saturday night and do both days.

GSequoia
May 24th, 2017, 15:03
Right now it's 2N49 and Cleghorn with one trail one day one the other. They both need work. We'd have to dispersed camp (I'll bring my propane fire ring), though, as the work center is too far away to be convenient in that scenario.

Camp location will depend on how many people are camping with us. I know of a few good spots along 2N49.

2N04 could use a bit of work, too, but I think the needs over on teh West side are greater.

Bent
May 24th, 2017, 15:44
Either way making a run up to North Shore make be a necessity for at least one person in order to unload trash.

Peter, I've been looking at 4 season tents and I've been assured by Mother Nature that it won't be snowing again until after I get one.

That is a recipe for a visit from old Mr. Murphy, who would probably relish the thought of messing with Mother Nature as well as you and all of us.

Mr. Murphy'so dead. He died and went straight to hell and now he's running the place.

TRUTH!!

Cleghorn seems to have been neglected on the trash pickup, and a good number of bottles and cans are laying under thorny shrubs that leave their broken tips behind in your skin. Either reach extenders or a suit of armor would be useful.

Meeting time and location for Saturday morning?

Let's say 9:30 at the South / West end of 2N47. The Cleghorn OHV trail off ramp of I-15. Exit the freeway and stage out of the way at the trail head.

I'll see you there.

Nimrod
June 8th, 2017, 10:25
Have the Drifters been invited to join us? I don't mean random drifters of unknown moral character roaming the highways or the doo wop group that recorded Under the Boardwalk and This Magic Moment back in the 60s. I mean the club that shares responsibility for 2N47 maintenance. In the interest of good club relations, I think they ought to be invited to join us if they haven't been.

Nimrod
June 8th, 2017, 10:27
Of course, if the Drifters doo wop group wanted to perform for us while we clean up, that would be pretty cool too.

BTW, we may try to relocate some downed trees, or parts thereof on 2N49 to further block an illegal trail. If you happen to have a length of stout chain it may be helpful to have it on Sunday.

Last time we wrapped the chain around the tree trunk and then secured the chain to the hitch receiver with a pin or d-ring.

I had to leave early due to some family obligations so I decided to see how long it would take to get from our campsite to the trail head at Palm. I stopped once to move some rocks, twice to let the dogs go pee, three times to pick up some trash. I also stopped and clipped branches that were easy to reach from inside the Jeep for a while. I left camp at 1030 and was airing up at 1145. I was aired and fueled up and on the freeway by 1215 and made it home by 1330.

I would like to see any pictures taken this weekend. I hope someone got some of driving 2N49 through the cloud on Sunday morning.

We finally gave up waiting for the clouds to clear and stopped for lunch:

http://www.retronaissance.com/img/Automotive/XJ/NAXJA/AAT/June2017AAT61OPT.jpg

And the children took over the fire pit. I think there may have been more kids than adults by this point. The smart adults gave up and retreated early. I don't know where the kids got all this firepower and unlimited ammo...

It was a great trip. And even if we camped in a Boeing wind test facility, it was at least drier than everything we wound up driving through.

I just bought a new family tent to switch from the fiberglass poles that are splintering. Here I thought the aluminum poles were the good stuff.

I suspect some battles just can't be won.

I've never had a problem with the 1/2" fiberglass poles in my Eureka tents. I've also never had a problem with small diameter aluminum poles. I suspect the 1/2" diameter aluminum poles are the issue, in order to be bendable the wall has to be thin enough to easily bend over the limit.

Anak
June 12th, 2017, 21:21
My new tent has DAC 11-13 mm aluminum poles. Probably pretty much the same thing as what you are bending. It will be interesting to see how these new poles hold up.

The previous tent has large diameter fiberglass poles, but it is a Coleman, so that may explain the durability difference in contrast to a Eureka.

Yeah, the fog and the mist made for some beautiful scenery on the back side of the mountain. Kinda glad it didn't make it's way to the campsite.
