For the last couple weeks in my 96 auto 231, I've heard a strange faint rattle/screech on light acceleration from just above idle to 1500 or so then it's gone.
Also, in traffic jams 30 minutes plus temps creep over from 195 to 220 and idle gets real rough and bucky.
Just put a new water pump and thermo on a few months ago but I over tightened the belt. Took it off and the new pump makes a faint groan but no play at all.
Checked all accessories and all others are good.
Put belt on right.
Faint rattle/screech sound is still there, and temp creeps with rough idle still.
Radiator is good.
I have a ZJ fan clutch on but it's 6 yrs old and I swear it's not as noisy as it used to be but I might be wrong.
Does a failing fan clutch make a sound like that?
I'm at a loss and when my baby idles that rough n warm I start to freak out.
It's my only car and I don't have enough for another.
I'm at a loss. Ya'll have any ideas or imput?
