Np231 questions

Hoping someone can help me out I have a 1996 Xj with a aw4 23 spline transmission I also have an np231 out of a 1990 XJ this is a 21 spline. My question is can I take the transfer case input shaft out and replace it with a 23 spline and install it into my 96 and if so what parts are needed to do the job any help would be greatly appreciated thanks guys...
Oh I do not have the original t case

The gear cut on the low-range planetary was changed in 94. 96 input and 90 planetary won't mesh properly. It will feel alright but it won't work under load

He should be able to change out the entire assembly.

The annulus gear is pressed into the case half, not removable

I've had them apart and replaced parts.

I've not tried to enter change from odd years.

I don't know why people cannot simply seek out parts from the same family of production years........I keep my life simple that way.
