This is a build/restoration thread for this jeep that I'll use to keep track of things done and to show its progression as the build thread for my 97' white jeep kinda died a awkward death lol
1991/4.0L/aw4/242/ d30-d35
The name comes from the first three letters of the license plates lol SBL. my mom bought the jeep back in 98' and she thought the jeep deserved that name as it was still kickin strong at 234,000 miles when she sold it back in 06' to some family down the street from her. Fast forward to 2016 and the family still had it, my mom and I always joked about seeing the jeep still driving around. And I always told her I wanted to own it, as it was the jeep that made me fall in love with Cherokees. Well I talked to the family that had it and they informed me that they were gonna scrap it!!! So I offered $275 for it, and they took it. Towed to my parents house and I'll be fixing it up to be my daily driver, hoping to use it to inspire my daughter for adventure and exploration like it did to me.
As it sits, it doesn't run, there is a hole in the gas tank, starter supposedly doesn't work. And the interior has mold from leaving the windows down during the winter.
Admins, you can censor the middle name of it's too obscene lol

First order of business is going to be to clean the inside. It's not bad just moldy so I'll be looking to swap out the seats for better shape early style seats or late model/Zj if the bracket mounts are the same

Looking over the jeep I got an idea of what will be needed to be done.
1. Driver door lock cylinder looks to have been tampered with, passenger door lock works fine with the key so I'll need to get a new key cylinder or something.
2. Passenger left door, the window crank is stripped or broken, couldn't get it to move at all to move the window up and down.
3. It's got nice looking Polk audio speakers in hatch and front doors which is cool.
Sent a email to Chrysler with the vin to see if possible they got a build sheet on it.
Also the head board had been reupholstered and I'm not sure to keep or change lol

We will see lol
Forgot to add, future plans is to add a lsd rear axle, and maybe a Volvo lsd in the front axle.

That interior is foul.

Cool back ground story on the Jeep, have fun tinkering.

Ya the carpet and seat are bad but everything else is good. Gonna pull them out tomorrow and get them ready to be pressure sprayed and see if that gets them back, if not then I'll just swap them out with something better.
I like this jeep because I know the history and I know it's never been off road or beaten. Just a daily and the underside is mint!! Not a single dent or rust.

Well I got word back from Chrysler, the burple color is actually black cherry pearl coat, never would of thought that. Guess Chrysler also noticed I'm a jeep fan lol 'loyalty to the jeep brand' oh if they only knew lol

Found out after taking her around the block the alternator isn't charging so I'll look into if it's the alt or not, if anything Brandon gave me a working alt I'll throw in. Got to figure out the check engine light Delio and interpreting it

Plan is to take it to my buddies and use his heavy duty pressure washer this weekend.

Couple of updates, got the interior put back together, looks way way better than before. Thought I had a pic but I'll get one later. Today I tackled the gas tank as the previous owner said that it had a leak. Well I took the plastic cover off and low and behold there was a leak on the passenger side.

Well took the pump out, looked to be a newer Bosch pump, was going to keep it as a spare but thought I'd check the tank my buddy gave me, well luckily I did as the pump in the tank was a airtex which I remember clearly that those are a no no lol so I swapped in the Bosch, got the ring sealed and put back together. Threw in a few gallons and it fired up. So I'm happy, only a few more things left to do.
1. Alternator issues, sometimes charges, sometimes doesn't.
2. Clutch fan as its wobbly. Got a couple from my parts Zj.
3. Weld old exhaust header or get a newer improved oem unit

Couple of updates, got the welded up header back in and cleaned the throttle body and intake manifold. Runs much quieter and smoother. Even has a little pick up and go again lol
Still trying to figure out the wobbly clutch fan, will try and get a video of it. I've tightened it down by crisscrossing the nuts so I know it's bolted down evenly but it seems like it can't sit even.

^this isn't mine but to show the part in talking about.
That is the part I'm wondering about if it's replaceable or if it's possible to be mounted wrong?

Also this says it won't fit but as far as I've seen, both early and late model 4.0l had the same viscous fan shroud am I right?

Haven't updated in a while. Got the A/C bracket swapped and a fan shroud on. It's getting closer and clear set to being a daily. Took a pic of it next to my 97' work in progress.

I bought a Silver Chrysler Lebaron 2dr new back in 89. I really wanted it in the Black Cherry Pearl but the dealer didn't have one on the lot. It was gorgeous back when it was new. I think the Silver aged better than the Black Cherry. Very cool history. I will be watching the build.

Cool story.... I think your headliner gave you your jeep name... Crushed velvet
