Need help with auto tranny

I have an 86 xj that had a 2.8 with auto tranny. I replaced this with a 4.0 and tranny from a 96 . I went back carb. Got rid of all electronics. I now cant get my tranny to shift out of first in low range. Also if i put it in 2h or 4h it doesnt want to move just acts like the breaks are locked up. Is there something i can do with this tranny or do i need an older tranny?

Did you install the TCU? If you didn't you will only have manual 1, and I believe it will default to 3rd in the drive or 3 position.

No i did not install any factory wiring. I have all of it but was hoping there was a hillbilly fix. Im only running it offroad but would like to use 2 wheel and if i could get 3 gears in low range i would be happy. Thanks for the response
