97 2wd 4 cyl auto gear ratio

A friend found a 97 4 cyl auto 2wd in a junkyard.


I know some of the older 4 bngrs came with 4.56's when they had the auto trans in them.

BUT I've never heard of much less seen a late model 4 bngr with an auto.

Anyone have one...or know what gears it "should" have?

4 cyl auto is usually 4.10

The only 4 cylinders that came with 4.56 had the AW-4. Most of them have some sort of 3 speed Chrysler transmission.

Not necessarily true. It was up to the dealer to order what they wanted. I have personally laid eyes on early XJs with 4.56's that had both manual and automatic transmissions. These mythical unicorn vehicles were most common in Arizona and Colorado from all I have seen in the last 20 years.

Normally in a vehicle you go with a lower gear ratio number with an auto than a manual.
