Can someone settle a transfer case argument for me?

A guy I work with was watching me tear down my 231 and he saw the blue link in the t case chain and he told me to make sure I line that up with the timing mark on the gears. Neither of us are trans guys but I feel confident that it's not timing lol. I assumed it was a master link. Insight is appreciated.

The guy does not know what he is talking about. The is no timing associated with the drive chain.

It's an interference transfer case!

If the timing marks don't line up the valves will end up meeting the planetary!!!

If you don't line up the timing marks the front tires will be out of sync with the rears, and you will have to re-gear the front diff.
