Evap/Heater Core reinstall issues - HELP

So...the evap core won't let me reattach the lines. I've got the HVAC box bolted back on, that's all fine...but it's like the new evap lines are shorter than the old ones. I can't get the AC lines close enough to the new evap core to make the connection. One line will get semi-close but nowhere NEAR enough to get over the rubber gasket. The other one almost seems bent.

Could it be a bad part? It's the TYC evap core from Rockauto. Anyone else have this issue?

If I cover the lines...can I drive it without the AC connected? I never really used it anyway. Could I at least drive it to a shop (7 miles) like this?

Thanks.
