Door hinge reinforcements?

93 2door xj (country). Driver door hinge on the body "ripped" so I had it welded back on... Crooked. Now it's ripping the thin sheet metal where the weld meets the metal. What suggestions do yall have in reinforcing that area so my honey can keep the door on the beast? (Note: she freaked out a bit when a crouch-rocket guy shook her hand when the door was off!)
I'm kind of thinking 1/4" angle iron , but not very sure how to go about doing that, it's our daily driver & can't "be out of service" for any amount of time.
