Nuts on top of vc cover

When you say cables; are you referring to the spark plug wires?
My XJ hasn't had the factory plastic separators for the plug wires in a long time.
The studs that stick up for the factory plastic plug wire separators are 1/4-20 on my 1998 4.0L.
 
Probably M8x1.50
 
Anything that threads directly into the block or head will be in Inches.

If it threads into the intake manifold it'll be Metric. Water pump to block is Inches, Water pump pulley to water pump is Metric. HTH.
