axle shaft

Can I remove my axle shaft by just removing the 3 hub bolts? Or do i have to remove the big 36mm nut in the middle? I just have to switch my brake shields I accidentally put them on the wrong side and it ate up my rotors :doh: .

If you pull the 3 bolts holding the hub on you will be able to pull the both the axle shaft and the hub off as one unit.
 
I've always removed them . Hate those things.
 
You don't need them, and they don't keep crap away from your brakes. Rotor dust shields only keep rotor dust off of your fancy rims.

I've got crap in the brakes (rocks, pebbles) when I had dust shields, too.

If you're going off road ... you're gonna get stuff where it shouldn't be.
