BUMP STEER

99 XJ with 3" lift and adjustable track bar. I do not have any bump steer when on dry pavement. Being in the Midwest I hit pot holes all the time, and still no bump steer. But the moment I hit dirt or if it rains I will experience excessive play in the steering that is pretty damn close to bump steer. Can some one explain to me what is going on?

Lack of traction on the front tires. It can't really be anything else I think.

How worn are your front tires? Lack of traction in the rain suggests that you may have worn slick tires or your camber/alignment is off and you have a small contact patch on the front tires.

I would start with a full front end inspection looking for worn components. With the tires on the ground have someone turn the wheel back and forth while you feel and look at everything for any play, especially the track bar ends.
