Issues with Park 1 issue or 2

Recently purchased a 99 Sport that had been sitting for some time. Transmission shifts fine when driving but I am having problems with Park. It takes some time moving the shifter around for the veh to recognize it is in Park.

Once it is in park, I have another issue where the vehicle will roll no matter what I do(except emergency brake). Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Sounds like someone threw it into park while it was still moving... damaging the park mechanism inside the transmission.

That......or there is the possibility that the shift linkage may be out of adjustment.

I think at the very least the shift linkage is out of adjustment. Cannot get the shifter to lock into 12 gear. Any chance this would cause the vehicle to roll as well?
