just replaced my first rear main seal. Everything went smooth except the upper seal got stuck about 3/4 ways in and it shaved a very thin layer off the upper part before i got it moving again. I went ahead and bolted cap back on but havent put pan on yet. Is this a leak waiting to happen? Its a 4.0 engine.

maybe, maybe not. You can either fill it with oil and waitNsee or go get another seal and redo. Your choice.

If it was me, I would replace that part of the seal since you have the pan off already. It would really suck to put it all back together and have it leak.
