97 Wire Harness and OBD2 plug

I put a 97 4.0 motor in a 88XJ. I didn't use the 88 harness at all and hacked the 97 harness, removing all non engine management circuits. Motor runs good but it has sometimes sputters and idols rough. It comes and goes. When I cut up the 97 harness I cut out the OBD2 reader plug. I know stupid me. I would like to reconnect it but I'm not sure what wires I would need to reconnect. Looking at the FSM for the 97 it shows a Diagnostic splice block, but I don't recall cutting it out of the harness. Would it just be as simple as connecting the twisted pairs of wires right out of the PMC to the OBD2 plug? Its never going to see streets and will be strictly off road. Could use some help from the electrical guys out there. Thanks
