yj gear box for hydro

why are you looking for a yj box? It's probably not mentioned because they are the same as the xj.

Are you thinking of a durango box? specifically a 99 ... they have a larger bore piston and 4 mounting holes.

Durango box is 3 mounting holes YJ has 4

ok I yield.

all my info is BS I guess

Apparently the box I was bought was not a durango... even though it had 4 tabs.

the aftermarket is mix-matching boxes willy nilly I guess.

I'll be quiet and go back to my corner.

I have a YJ box in my jeep, I got it out technically out of a FSJ as they and the YJ used the same box. The box has a higher fixed ratio and 4 mounting points. It does take less turn of the wheel to go full lock and the speed is a lot faster. It's nice because regardless of speed you're doing, it turns all the same compare to the xj box.

An XJ box is a fixed ratio box. I have built over a hundred and I can guarantee to you that it is a fixed ratio box. Now the number of turns lock to lock may be different from the box you are talking about, but the number is fixed.

Interesting, all I've seen and heard was that they were variable like the Durango boxes. Nice to see you in the thread since you are basically the only one with the most knowledge with them lol

also used in wrangler and J10

and the WJ pitman, I'm assuming from an 02 would be the right call?
OMIX-ADA #1800610 http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

any other suggestions? can't quite swing PSC at the moment..
I just wanna get the right parts selected before ordering. till then I'll be reading up http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/jeep-cherokee/852000-totm-hydro-assist-steering.html

thanks. I'll be back for further questions later

I'm running a drilled and tapped Durango box that my buddy did for me. Brand me when we did it. The Durango box have shorter throw then Xj box. I get about I get one and a half rotation on the steering wheel and that's it. Verse my Xj box I use to get two complete turn. You will have to shim the ram more than likely depending on where you mount the ram. I have a 8" ram that had to be shimmed down to 7" as I only have 7" throw in the box. It has a hair more throw then my box does and I can tell my sector shaft is loose. I would say save and buy a PSC box that's ment for assist. I did PSC ram and PSC high flow pump and it is night and day difference. My buddy is running a Xj box, WJ pump, and trail gear ram and he has a good amount of leg. I have hardly any leg in my steering which is awesome. Hope that helps a little!

PSC can also do up your stock box.

This.

People get all scared of the $600+ price tag for a box. $250 plus shipping got my box done with all the goodies and ported out and fancy PSC caps and everything. Rest of my system is all of the extreme duty assist stuff mixed together.
