xj motor

In search of a new or hopefully original 4.0 for a 86 wagoneer (xj).nobody in s. utah seems to have anything that old. My wifes truck and doesn't want to go v-8. any comments would help thanks

Do some research, any XJ or ZJ 4.0L should interchange with any other. Simply remove and re-use as needed or required from your original engine: Intake/Exhaust manifolds, flex plate/flywheel, cylinder head, distributor-less ignition or distributor assembly, engine sensors, fan belt driven accessories and mounting brackets.

tried a 96 motor, also a 4.0 but it dogged down like my 456 gears were all the sudden 256. never really done a motor swap (to a bigger one) in the xj's. I guess i'm looking for opinions or advise. sick of missing events

What EXACTLY are you trying to do?

I'm confused. 86 was before the 4.0 came out.

I've done a number of 4.0 swaps across years and can probably help.
