OEM D30 Gear Setup

Ok guys and gals,

I am swapping my d30 from the stock 355 to stock 410 gear set. I pulled the carrier and pinion from a stock equip 80's xj D30. Once i dropped them in i was getting a bad whirling sound from the front end. Pretty sure I don't have them aligned properly. Could anyone please give me the tolerances and things I need to check with a dial indicator, toques, etc

How did you set yours up?

You just threw in some junkyard gears into your housing? First thing you need to do is run a pattern, then you can see where you need to adjust from there. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you need to do more research.

For a d30 rough numbers is .006"-.010" backlash, and pinion preload rolling torque for used bearings is 6-8 in-lbs.

Blue I did run a pattern and it looked all good.
