Fuel pump retainer.

We just replaced the Fuel pump assembly on the kids '92.

Is there any special tool needed to get the retainer ring back in?
I had to reuse the old retainer and O-Ring because we couldnt compress it enough to get all three tabs in place at the same time.

I'm worried once its filled up its going to leak.
Any tip or tricks to get it back together?

thanks

I always lube the O-ring and retainer with a dab
of dielectric grease or something similar. Never
had a problem. Double check that the O-ring is
in it's channel and none of the tabs are bent out
of position.

Be sure you use a piece of wood or a brass-headed
hammer to tap the retaining ring in place.

Don't want this to happen...:flame:

I take the retainer ring and bend the leading edges of each tab to create a ramp to help it start under the tank tab. Also, I grease the retainer ring and the o-ring areas with Permatex disc brake lube (comes in a grey bottle with a brush attached to the cap). This makes it easier to turn and prevents rust.
