Disassembling steering column to fix damage

Some asshole stole my Jeep and jacked up the steering column surround. I don't think there's any unfixable damage in the column.

I think that I only need to replace the surround, and the spring. Is there a good steering column disassembly write up? What about diagrams or pictures on how this is supposed to look?

Have you considered just grabbing a used column from the recyclers?

Yes, swapping the column is probably the route I'm going to take. I just wanted to keep my options open.

Swapping the cylinder doesn't require a steering wheel puller, right?

depending how stuck your steering wheel is, It'll probably require a steering wheel puller and a lock plate remover. I've gotten lucky before and had the wheel pull right off, but starting without it almost guarantees it's need.

Yeah, I suppose it's best to have the steering wheel puller when I start. You're right - if I start w/o it, then I'll definitely need it!
