Oil pressure fraud by PO?

Bought my 2000 a little while ago. After changing oil, I noticed that with the key on, but motor not running, I show about 50 psi. Running, it pretty much maxes the needle. Key off goes back to zero. Could the PO have rigged the gage to show bogus oil pressure? Seems like key on, not running, oil pressure should be zero.:hang:
 
I agree that the oil pressure sending unit is suspect. If you buy one, do yourself a favor and buy a MOPAR unit directly from Jeep.

Aftermarket sending units are "hit and miss" with reliability and longevity.....with a lot of miss.
