Hey now.

Looking to replace my old worn stock shocks to something for the softest possible ride. I'm thinking bilstein, but curious if anyone else has any input.

I'll let you know in 2 weeks. my xj is in the shop getting bilsteins install. I bought them from amazon got here in a day with "5 day ground shipping". I'm in Hudson Valley NY. I'm pretty excited about it.

Depending.., lol, hey check out: http://www.bilsteinus.com/ go through it to find your application. Then go to: http://www.arbusa.com/Vehicle-Application-Guide.aspx and download pdf. Talk to both tech. reps., and see which brand will meet your needs.

I have about 40 k on my (OME), "Old Man Emu" HD's, and still good. No Caddy ride with the HD type I upgraded to, but to each his own. Had 3 k on Ranchos, but gave 'em to a neighbor with XJ in dire need of something good. I went with OME due to the washboard dry/wet dirt roads, and highways covered with washboard ice/snow at times. They are designed and tested to meet similar roads in Australia, albeit dry ones. Best thing I did for the XJ shock system. Never tried Bilstein for the XJ, so can't compare. They were'nt that great on a '61 Porsche, cornering nose dive on hard sharp turns, but my more carefully driven VW Van liked 'em. If Bilstein is better, I'd like to know. Perhaps someone has tried both brands that were as close to the same specs., and can chime in.

Bilstein or ome if you can afford it. Monroe sensa tracs are decent for low dollar replacement.
