fluid pouring from trans

i pulled my tcase out today due to a crack in the rear half from the ujoint at rear diff failing...driveshaft is shot. when i originally pulled the tcase off to put on the sye no fluid came out from between the tcase and transmission. i dont know if that block that is between the tcase and transmission has a seal on it or not (the block that the crossmember bolts to) Should i pull the trans out and open it up? the fluid wasnt red and i replaced it and fliter last year with mobil 1......2000 xj with192000 miles on it

Where was the fluid pouring from? You shouldn't get fluid pouring out if you just remove the tcase from the tranny.

Some fluid may come out when you removed the transfer case. The transfer case input shaft rides on the seal in the transmission housing.
