Oil filter adapter replacement

I pulled my oil filter adapter off so that I could replace the leaking o-rings. When I got it off, I noticed that the bolt with the T-60 head on it is hollow and has a hole in the side where the oil can go into the oil filter.

So, my question is this: When replacing it, will it automatically line up so that that hole is where it needs to be on the adapter, or will it be like a castle nut where you have to keep loosening or tightening to get the hole lined up where it needs to be? And, if you have to keep turning it until it lines up just right, how the hell do you know if it is where it needs to be??

Thanks
