242 transfer case, new seal, still leaks.

Hello, I'm new here. Just picked up a 1990 XJ after my 89 YJ that I owned for 5 years got totaled. One of the first things I noticed on the XJ was that my rear seal on the transfer case (242) was leaking. I drained the fluid and replaced the seal (removing the old one was a job in itself) and replaced it with a Timken seal from Autozone. and filled the case back up with Dex/Merc. Now the leak is worse, leaking from where the seal meets the drive shaft. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Time for an SYE,ha.

Well, It ends up AutoZone did sell me the wrong part, I think it was the one for the 231, according to their computer the 1990's didn't come with 242's. Went to Napa, they gave me the right seal, no more leaks!

Congrats!!!
