I'm re installing the rear output seal on my 97 231j transfer case and I'm trying to understand the trick I've read to help keep from destroying the seal when putting it on, I remember it involved electrical tape but I'm a visual person so I'm wondering if anyone has pics or a thread that might show it so I can do this right since these seals are kinda pricey($20)

I don't have a pic but
simply wrap a layer of electrical tape over the snap ring groove. Lube the tape and the inner diameter of the seal with grease or trans fluid. Once the seal is installed, remove the tape.
