rewrapping center console lid?

I am doing some interior work on my friends xj and we wanted to rewrap the center console. We grabbed a lit out of the junkyard and I pulled the dirty old leather cover off, but in the process I ripped some of the foam off with the cover. I've been searching and can't find anything about doing this, and am not sure what to do next with the ripped foam. Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

I wonder if some of that canned foam would work as filler, to fill and even out the missing chunks?

Just how much foam was ripped off? I've done repairs on foam by cutting out the gouged section with are VERY sharp razor knife and replacing it with some foam from some product that was packaged with it. Cut out a nice rectangular shape so it's easy to replicate with the new foam. Once it's covered, it shouldn't be too easy to spot.
