Hey guys Im new to the forum, not new to jeeps. This passed weekend I picked up a 99 cherokee bone stock and have big plans for it and am going to try and keep a picture heavy build thread on it and will try to keep track and post prices and such. It will be somewhat of a budget build. I won't be skimping out on anything but I will be doing as much of my own fab as I can and finding as many deals as possible. Hoping to make this a thread worth reading, I love a Good build Thread!

Here are my two previous jeeps, I sold both about a year ago and regret it a lot.

Here was my FAVORITE
2000 XJ- 35" MTR's, Rough Country lift, RLC bumper, welded rear. I'd drive it to work everyday on the highway, Drove it 70 miles to Dirty Turtle Offroad park a couple times and beat the crap out of it then drove it home.

And now in with the new Subject
Funny story how I picked this 99 Jeep Cherokee classic up. Guy listed it on Craigslist for $1500. It had broke down on him the week before and he thought it might be the coil or something but wasn't sure. It had brand new tires on it, a new starter, new battery, newly redone headliner. $1500 was too much so I over looked it and a week later he dropped his price to $800. So I called him and asked if I could come tinker with it and he agreed. I checked/swapped some fuses and relays and no result, then pulled a plug and had no spark there. Then checked for spark off the coil and sure enough had good spark. So then I pulled the dis. cap and sure enough the rotor button had fell out in pieces/dust. I told him I'd be right back, I left and hit the ATM then autozone. Came back and sure enough with the new rotor button and cap on it fired right up. The guy was ill, but he stuck to his word and I drove off.

Good thing I don't need that bumper!

So Far I have about $950 in it:
Jeep~$800
Cap/Rotor/Relay~$40
V.C. Gasket/plugs/wires/oil change/air filter~$100

The only other thing it needs is a Front wheel bearing thats Humming on the highway, and its got the o2 sensor short that I need to trace and I need to adjust the 4wd linkage. Everything works power windows, mirrors, cruise, stereo, signals, windsheild sprayers, etc.

Things Coming up in the thread will be:
Fender trimming
rear false floor/tool box deal/cubby hole 8" sub
gonna move the master window switch into the center console or dash and move the door speakers over head so that Having removable doors will be easier. Gonna go with either half doors (great how to video on youtube by bleepinjeep) or tube doors.
Welding rear diff
I'm looking hunting for a deal on leather seat swaps
I'm hunting for a deal on 35's
I don't make a lot of money. I don't have an elaborate shop. This is my DD but I do have a spare vehicle.

Gonna take a crack at building my own bumpers and rock sliders over the next few weeks and would like to exo cage it down the road. thats all I can think of now.

I love feed back and tips. Hope to build a helpful thread for all you Jeepers

Good news:
Ordered my rough country long arm lift today for around 1600$.
ordered monstaliner kit today $240.
Going to pick up some COOPER S/T 315/75/16's tomorrow before work used but in decent condition which helps the budget at $225

Bad News:
I'll be out of town all weekend this week and next weekend also :(

Last weekend went to start on the bumper and metal supermarket wasn't open. So I fixed my broken turn signal lenses and added some angry eyes then worked on my C20 p/u instead.

Got this lift and monstaliner kit on the way, Anybody have any tips, warnings, head's up for me?
Also gonna weld my Diff thursday. and cut my fenders and cut my rockers out and start on sliders soon.

Here's the budget beauty for now though:

Well everything came and I got started. Only had a few hours and left for Chicago early this morning. Didn't plan on breaking all the shock mount studs in the rear. But I did, so I welded nuts in place it should work fine. And the leaf spring/shackle bolts fought me every step of the way. But I got em out all but one I'll have to cut Sunday. I'll try to take more pics but I was by myself last night.

I feel your pain on the shackle/leaf spring bolts. Every single one of mine gave me trouble. Removing the old control arms up front were the same way. I ended up taking a sawzall to those when doing the 3 link, lol. Looking forward to seeing this come together!

Okay so here's what I did to get that leaf off, I cut the packs off so I could round the eye off so it would come out.

Then the new went on easy

I did have to rethread the passenger front leaf hole. It was an m14x20 tap. The inner threads where still good and luckily the tap cleaned it up and worked perfect.

Here's how I fixed my broken shock mount studs:
First ground em down

Then drilled new holes through

Then welded the nuts on with a little flux core buzz box

Then they mounted right up, quick easy fix

Now she's back on all four. Time to start the front :))

got ever thing done. I don't like the way the tranny crossmember mounts up/ and I broke one bolt on one side and those self tappers for the third extra hole are junk. so tomorrow Im gonna drill holes through the floor board and run some nice nuts and bolts to hold it on tight. oh and bleed the breaks and get her out of that cage/garage.
I'll try to post more pictures tomorrow.

The kit sits up even higher then I expected. I hope it stays that way and doesn't settle very much

Well I got it all done. I ended up drilling holes through my floor board to put new grade 8 hardware through the new crossmember. Yesterday I cut the front fenders and tonight I started to do the rear but I ran out of cutting wheel and energy. Save it for tomorrow.

Looks like his vent tube.

Is there any rake to your rig? It looks pretty level. Mine sits about a half inch higher in the rear with the same lift.

Mine actually does have a rake to it you can't tell in most pics. I'm thinkin of putting a spacer in the front coil springs to level it out. Not a fan of rake.

I'm going to get mine all loaded up with gear then go from there. Also shackle re-locators are a must, so I'll have to see where I'm at after that.

This is what it looks like. If you move the "p" up level on the bottom it will look like a Capitol P.
No it is not moved up it's a capital P. Look closely at the front of the jeep, all the letters are on the same plane. I've seen this before in real life a few times and always liked it.

Go figure... That's crazy. You are absolutely right. Kinda cool really, different...
