This is on a '99, with a 1" spacer on the hinge, not sure if that matters

Length of time required: ~1/2 beer
Tools/parts required - drill, nut driver, 13mm wrenches, 2 self tapping screws, 1 new nut

Position the base at the back of the flat section. Fasten with self tappers

Put hood up to the desired position, with the strut extended locate where the post needs to go through the hood.

Drill the hole, bolt it through, snap the strut back onto the stud.

I went the extra step of cutting off the extra threads sticking through. Turns out I'm out of dark red rustoleum, I'll paint it when I get more

Sit back, relax, and enjoy not having to hassle with the hood prop every time you open it!

Looks like you could have turned the connection to the side instead of out the top of the hood. Maybe drill and tap the hole, then screw the ball in, cut it off, weld and grind smooth. I guess instead of truck nutz, you can call yours hood nutz.
