We are putting together The XJ Experiences. 5 days 5 trails on the Rubicon and surrounding trails. This is and XJ only event applications will ready in February for this run. Here are some of the minmum requirements to attend this run. 33" Tires, Winch, Recovery Gear, Rear Locker, Rock Sliders, Body Armor, Spare tire, Current Tags, Current Green Stickers for trailer queens, Current Insurance, First Aid kit, and all common things found in long trail runs. Also photos will be required with application and we will have a tech inspection. Sponsors we have so far at this time are CORVA, OMC OFFROAD, Ventura Off Road Show and many more to come. you can e-mail [email protected] with questions on run and to send your application in. You can also follow up-date here and on facebook under The XJ Experiences
Vehicles Preparations

This information is intended to give the reader an
idea of what type of vehicle is needed to run the
Rubicon Trail. These are recommendations only; it
is up to you to be safe and thoughtful when using
the trail.

If you have the driving skills, a brand new stock
Wrangler can be driven through the Rubicon, taking
the bypasses. Most people should expect sheet metal
damage, at a minimum. Larger tires (33”), a lift kit
(3”), body protection (rocker guards) and a locking
or limited slip differential should be considered to
prevent damage.

Vehicle accessories you should consider:

* Hand tools
* Spare parts
* A spare tire
* Onboard welder
* A fire extinguisher
* A Winch rated at roughly twice your vehicle’s weight, preferably equipped with synthetic
rope
* Extrication hardware (tree strap, clevis,
dowels, chain, etc.)
* A tow strap
* Work gloves
* A Hi-lift jack
* Adequate attachment points for towing (tow hooks!)
* A roll cage
* High quality seat belts
* A functional parking brake or Line Lock device

Remember to maintain your vehicle prior to coming
to the trail! Poorly maintained vehicles leak, are
unsafe, and tend to break down, ruining your trip
for you and your group.

Vehicle Licensing

It is legal to drive any street licensed vehicle from any US state on the Rubicon Trail.

Green sticker requirements
Any non-street legal vehicles needs to have a green sticker and spark arrestor in place to run the
Rubicon Trail. For details, see http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures...cts/ffvr16.htm

Conditions and restrictions
The Rubicon Trail is a county claimed public road in both El Dorado and Placer Counties.
All vehicle codes still apply. All county laws and restrictions are still enforced.

Review all restrictions and conditions.

Did I miss the dates of this event in your post?

Do you intend this to be sponsored/hosted type event with food and such worked out for the group?

Sorry about that its in June and dates to be released after Jan 1 and we are working on supporting clubs and local business's to Eldorado county.

Pending snow levels, of course....I've seen the Rubicon impassable due to snow in early July. That being said, I'd love to be part of this.

I am very interested. I know it is a way off, but clearing up a couple of things will dictate my enthusiasm:

- Do you anticipate this being in late July? (my kid/driver is still in school)
- Do I really need to have a winch? (So far haven't had a need for one)
- Do you anticipate this being a hosted type event, like a Jamboree? (Planning for 5 days on the trail is much different if some basics are covered by others)

Wow, 5 days? What trails?

Is an MJ ok? :gee:

Interested. In the pursuit of weight loss I threw out my doors, side glass, tailgate, and other unnecessary stuff, and I don't mind some cold, but not if it is a snow run in June. I like the idea of 5 days. Lets hope for some sunshine!

Coincidentally, I have camping reservations at Union Valley Reservoir for June 17-23. link

Might be interested depending on the final dates and which trails to be included...

So we are doing the Rubicon, Airport Flat, Wentworth Springs, North Shore, to name a few. We are still figuring out which ones so that any one on 33" and a rear locker can go. And yes MJ are welcome it just an XJ with a bed.

The minimum requirements are all pretty clear, except the "body armor" requirement. Can you be more specific about that?

Interested will subscribe to post for updates! Also forgot to ask! If you have any specific info regarding tow vehicle parking other than at the casino or camp Holy Moly if you get there by the sixth sunday in March or September. This would really help in trip planning. Addresses or GPS coordinates would be great but may be impossible! Thanks.

We plan on using Loon Lake Camp ground as a base camp and head from there out to trail heads. Also if you have a trailer rig you must have current green sticker. As for body armor on your XJ quarter panels, doors if you have it gas tank. Just any hting basic for an XJ would be good.

It's not a trailer queen I just trailer or flat tow everywhere I take it, you never know! Registration has always been current as well as smog.
So is Loon Lake accessible by motorhome, is it safe? I do have a 4x4 van I tow with but I have a friend that may go and we may use the 2 car hauler and split the cost.
