With my Flowmaster, AEM intake, stereo, painting stuff black and some general maintenance I've done I think in in mine like $1200, heck I've only had it 3 months!

Having built a couple now, I'd say expect to spend about 10K-12K over a few years to build a pretty decent but modest trail rig that drives nice on the highway.
If you really get into it, you can easily spend 2-3 times that.
Ballpark 40K on the last jeep..
A racecar yes, but a surprising amount of that expense would have gone into an equivalent built trail rig without the race specific parts.
Its certainly cheaper to buy a rig that is already built, but a lot more satisfying to build it yourself.
