Overcharging issue?

I have a 92 that I just purchased and have been fixing many issues (overheating, leaking rear crankseal, swapping D35 for 8.25, replacing bent adle)on over the past few weeks. The problem I have now is that the alt seems to be charging at about 16 on the factory gage. I have heard of overcharging a battery being a problem and since I have a new Optima I want to ensure I don't have an issue.

The PO had just installed a new alt.
Maintenance required code 46 is coming up.

Any suggestions?

Lovin my new XJ and tired of hearing my wife tell me I'm obsessed.

Sounds like the regulator on the alternator may have crapped out. You could try to replace the regulator, or you could see where he got it, and see if they will do a warranty/swap on it.
