1987 Wagoneer XJ: How do I remove automatic gear-shift bezel?

If its anything like the later models, it just pulls straight up. There are spring clips that secure it to the rest of the housing.

You are correct! But... How do I get it up over the shift-handle?

Push the shift button in while pulling upwards. It will pop off.

Agree^

Put the lever in 1-2 and get in the back seat. It might take a tug and it won't hit you in the face this way:laugh3:

You're welcome Crist! Thanks for joining NAXJA. I joined after the first couple of my newbie questions were answered and I realized the cost of membership didn't come close to the value of the knowledge I get from this site!
