i have on going noise while in tight cornering on low speed ,mechanic said it is the limited slip clutches in the differential ,, and he recommended to replace it with new ones given that we need to put some special additive ..some old jeepers say cancel the clutches as it wont last ,others say use toyota additive ... whats the best practice ?

Have the clutch packs replaced. They do break occasionally after a lot of miles and place the Mopar limited slip friction additive in back with the new gear oil.

Dana Spicer Clutch Packs can be ordered from Just Differentials. Removing/Replacing the packs in and out of the case is much easier with the tools. By the time you get done fooling around with it you might as well take your purchased packs to a shop that knows something about diffs and have 'e knock it out.

I have five XJs all with trac locs and only one needed attention so far. All the others have received by-the-book maintenance with the additive provided each time.

Good luck.
