'93 Stumble & Miss

Hi guys, I have a '93 XJ 4.0 HO, Auto that I've been screwing around with quite a bit lately to try and get running right.

It started with continuous cranking but would not fire up. I went about replacing the CPS & Coil with no results. I still had no spark, except for a couple of random times that it fired up a little bit after replacing the CPS.

After messing around a bit more and doing more searching I found this: http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoECUcodes.htm resouce. The codes I got were 12-33-54-55. Obviously the only one I was concerned about was 54, which relates to the Cam Pos. Sensor/stator/magnetic pickup/etc. I found this thread: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=951573&highlight=code+54 and decided replacing the whole distributor was worthwhile for the cost as the old one seemed a bit questionable.

After replacing the distributor (and not indexing it the correct way) the Jeep tried to fire up on the first crank. Success! Or not. Another search turned up several resources on how to index the distributor. I followed every instruction (everything was basically the same) and I still have not been able to get the Jeep running properly. I can get it close and it idles pretty well, but if you give it any power it stumbles/misses. It even backfires through the exhaust a little bit at times. I've popped the distributor out several times and gone a tooth ahead or backwards of the mark, and it runs worse. I've always made sure I'm at TDC to adjust the distributor, and I've checked wires to make sure they are in the correct order.

Next thing I'm going to do is put the distributor back to where it runs 'okay' and check codes again.

Please help me with where to go from here. Thanks
