Can I still use the same DS on the D44 that I used on the 8.25? Will it be to long to short? From Pinion Yoke to Output shaft on the Tcase was 34 inches. I dont know off hand if the housing on the D44 is longer or shorter then the 8.25 Please help gents with my newbish question.

From recollection, the D44 is slightly longer than the C8.25. You may still be OK, how much slip do you have left on the shaft?

I went from an 8.25 to a built D44 and reused everything except U Bolts.

A test fit of this '05 LJ Dana 44 (same width/dimensions an an XJ Dana 44) into my daughter's "project donor" 1999 XJ (4.0L/AW4/NP231) revealed that the XJ pinion appeared to be a little shorter than the 8.25 that we pulled out...I'm guessing by an inch or so. We'll probably have the rear driveshaft rebuilt/lengthened for her project once we get to that point.
