Hello NAXJA, I just signed up and will be swapping a AW4 into my 97 TJ. I'm running 37 mtr w Kevlar with 4.88 @ the time with a 3 speed auto. Rpms are crazy high @65 around 3100. What I would like to know if anyone is running 5.13 or 5.29 wit 37 inch tires and what they think about it with the 4 speed auto. Looking to bring my rpms down @ this point. Thanks

welcome to an XJ forum. :)

with the same tranny, deeper gears (lower numerically) will make you run higher RPMs at the same speed.

adding to serious... i use this calculator because you can manually input your transmission gear ratios:
http://www.csgnetwork.com/multirpmcalc.html

you can find info on the transmissions in question at novak, including the drive ratios:
http://www.novak-adapt.com/

i cannot comment on the quality of any auto tranny. i have an AX15. manual. ;)

I run 5.13's with 37's on the highway. RPMs are somewhere around 2500 at 75. With a stroker I get 16-17 mpg on the highway.

Doing an AW4 swap into a TJ is not all that difficult.

Thanks guys for the input, just ordered up a set of 5.29's. Cal do you have a thread on the stroker you have? Is it a a crate stroker of did you put it together your self?

No thread on it, this stroker was in the jeep when I bought it.

Its a budget stroker (4.2 crank/rods, stock pistons) with a cam similar to the comp 235-1 and a mild port/polish job on a renix jeep.
