So I just finished chopping my new 44. I cut just over 2" on both driver and pass. Heres a pic with the shafts slid in. Does this look like enough spline engagement, or does it look like to much?

I would assemble your carrier/locker and bolt it in and then throw your shafts in.
No one is going to be able to tell you with 100% certainty by looking at your picture.
