Stock HP D30 carrier for 4.56?

I've been looking around for the answer but cannot find anything definitive on the D30. I have a 95 XJ w/ the NP242. Do I need a new carrier for 4.56 gears?

yes..unless you already happen to have 4.10s ,thats the only factory gear ratio that wouldn't need a new carrier

Tcase isnt what you need to know (though i guess in MOST cases the engine/tranny/Tcase combo can give you a good idea of what you probably have).

there is a carrier break between 3.9? and down, and 4.10 and up (numerically) gear ratios.

what about factory 4.56 gears?

it happened... but that would be a rare gem.

i wonder if factory 4.56s were factory, or dealer added.

Factory, came with the 2.5L/AW4 combo.
