Hi I found a 231 w/ a sye at the junkyard, and pulled the shaft with gears and the drive shaft... I was wondering if I will need to disassemble this in order to install it, or can i pull the old one out with the gears on it like this one is?

i dont see why not... i dunno how your gonna make sure the oil pump tube is attatched but the gears should be the same

Thanks, it was laying in some mud, and there seems to be some in the retainer... What would be the best way to clean it? Brake part cleaner?

Wash it out with the water hose and a high pressure nozzle then blow it out thoroughly with compressed air or set it out in the sun for a day. Apply tranny fluid liberally before installation.
