so my father has an 88 or 89(cant remember) swb mj, with the 2.5TBI and BA10(I think).
I weeled it once, it ran pretty hot, not dangerously hot but enough to cause me to take notice, and it hasn't started since. Ive got no spark. I replace the cap, rotor, coil, CPS, and wires. still no spark. the battery doesn't hold a charge very well, but if you hook up some jumpers to it it will crank very strong.
also the CPS has one bolt missing I believe its broken off in the hole, cause when I went to replace it it wouldn't thread in. Its held in well with the top bolt and is in the correct position. I think Im going to drill it out, tap it and just throw a bigger bolt in it.
now iv done some reading and from what I gather I need to add/improve the grounds on the batt and block. also when I go to his place this weekend Im going to bring my XJs batt and swap them, to rule out batt problems. any thing else I should be checking. I hate all this electrical stuff. Iv read about checking the voltage at the cps and pcm and junk and it leaves me alittle lost.
on a separate and hopefully unrelated note, its leaking fuel. it appears to be leaking from the sender. I was only able to get a quick look at it so Im not sure if its the hoses where they connect to the sender or the sender its self. what am I in for if it is the sender? Iv checked my normal sources for parts and haven't been able to find any.
what makes all this harder is i have no Internet access to look stuff up as i come across it, few tools at his place, dirt driveway, and its 2 hrs away from me so If i forget a tool I cant just go home and grab it.
jeese that last paragraph sound like Im whining. LOL. just trying to paint my picture.
