Homebuilt Cowl Induction Hood

Decided I wanted a cowl induction hood, but didnt want to shell out $400-$500 for a complete hood. Once again, I am unemployed for a little while, and my project list in nearing its end, so I decided to just do it - if for no other reason than to have something to do.

The beauty of doing this the way I did is that there is no need for any body work since I just added another coat of herculiner over everything and it does a fine job of hiding imperfections.

I was surprised at how quick this went, I have about 4.5 hours in it, including the hood removal.

I only cut through the outer skin of the hood, so all of the 'framework' under the hood is still intact. The vents (from a Z34 I think?) are a few years old and fit nicely between the spars without having to cut them. I didnt go the full length to the rear of the hood due to my cross bar on my exo cage, as will be more obvious once I get it remounted and post a picture tonight.

Im happy with it, and think it turned out pretty well.

Picture story below....

Thanks guys!

Got the hood mounted up just a few minutes ago. Im happy with it. Wish I could have made it go all the way back, but the cage was in the way. Oh well.

Not much to see on the bottom side, other than the cross supports still being there.

Got about 3/4 of an inch gap. The hood actually raises up a fair amount higher than factory due to my gas strut I put on it, but it allows easy access to most anything.

That cage is out of this f'ing world! Hood looks good, I was concerned about how much the welds would be hidden by the bedliner, but it looks like it did a sufficient job concealing them.
