Aren't blogs/failbook the current/modern day "diary"? I do not know first hand, as I have never written a blog and do not have a failbook account. But sounds about right.

yeah, but with a diary, you always had to worry about someone finding it later, and embarrasing you.
This way, by the time you get embarrased, its already out there for the world to see. Thus denying someone else the priveledge of exposing you.
