windshield wipre motor mount????

On my 1987 MJ, 4.0L, the wipers stopped working (on the freeway, at night, in a blizzard!!!!) I could see movement in hood cowl (where the motor is mounted.) but no wipers working. After I got it home (good story, 40 miles with a hand scraper out the window while driving back roads). I found that the bar that the wiper motor mounts to was completely rusted through. The motor just sits there.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Ideas on fixing it?
I looked and cant see where that bar connects.

on second take, some sheet metal and self tapping screws might be your solution.
