CPS

The PCM uses CPS input to time the ignition and fuel injectors.

Sometimes as ckowenos mentioned, it can suffer thermal failure and the PCM will shut down the engine.

This usually won't trigger a trouble code, because for some reason the PCM thinks the engine was shut down normally.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of other things that can cause this as well.

If the CPS fails completely, you may see the words "NO BUS" appear in your odometer window.

Good luck... you may be in for a lot of head-scratching.... ;)
